Real Madrid vs. Las Palmas: Team News, Preview, Live Stream and TV Info

Rob BlanchetteFeb 27, 2017

The title race remains wide open in Spain, as Real Madrid host Las Palmas in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday.

Los Blancos are only one point clear of Barcelona, and any slip in results could be catastrophic in the remaining months of the campaign. They do have a game in hand on their bitter rivals, though.

Gareth Bale has returned to first-team action for manager Zinedine Zidane after injury, reinforcing the UEFA Champions League holders' attacking unit.

Preview

Real had to dig deep against the Yellow Submarine at the Estadio de la Ceramica, initially trailing 2-0 before rescuing a 3-2 victory.

A goal from Bale was the catalyst for the stunning comeback, as further efforts from Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata kept the Madrid bandwagon rolling towards silverware.

Defeat would have meant two consecutive losses for the leaders, opening the door for Barca at the summit.

Real's overall form has dipped recently, but they continue to display resilience in the face of adversity.

Madrid defender Marcelo told broadcaster Movistar+ (h/t Marca) the fighting spirit in the camp is solid and vital at present:

"

We knew that we couldn't give up.

We generated some important pressure and thanks to everyone who ran and fought so hard, we have won.

We played against a great team, there aren't any easy games. We didn't think we would concede two goals, but you have to point out everyone's efforts.

"

Bale's return to action is well timed, taking the weight off Ronaldo's shoulders as Karim Benzema struggles to find the net on a regular basis.

The 27-year-old Wales international has seven goals from 12 starts in La Liga, and he has already shown he will contribute positively to the team's goal tally in the coming weeks.

Las Palmas have remained steady this term, floating in mid-table, undefeated in 14 of 24 Spanish league matches.

However, the Canary Islands' finest have now lost four games on the spin, and a trip to the nation's capital will be filled with trepidation. The Yellows only conceded five goals in the four losses, but it is their lack of returning firepower that is the issue.

Jese is in line to return to his former club after accepting a loan at Las Palmas from Paris Saint-Germain, but the attacker's spell in the Canary Islands has not been plain sailing.

OptaJose highlighted the club's record since the player's arrival:

On paper, Real will not be concerned by their opponents' lineup, but a shock defeat to Valencia recently showed the Galacticos have vulnerabilities.

However, after failing to hit the back of the net with regularity, Las Palmas are unlikely to wrestle a share of the points at one of football's greatest cathedrals.

If Bale recovers sufficiently to start, it could be a long night for the Gran Canaria team.
