Manchester United Win Their 42nd Major Trophy, a New English Record

If you judge it on major trophies involving multiple teams, Manchester United are the most successful English club of all time. 

We calculated the trophy counts of United and rivals Liverpool and found the Red Devils' EFL Cup win on Sunday tipped them ahead by one trophy. 

The stat does not include two-team "Super Cup" competitions like the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. 

United's lead would be even greater if those were included due to their 21 Community Shields to 15 for Liverpool. 

Liverpool have won three UEFA Super Cups (to one by United), while United have won one Intercontinental Cup, a competition that the Anfield club never won.
