Texas Coach Tom Herman Once Fired by Subway for Stuffing His Face with Pastrami
New Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman wasn't always a recognized name in college football.
Years before he enjoyed stints in various roles throughout the NCAA, he was a high school student who needed to make some money.
As he explained to the Dallas Morning News' Brad Townsend, one of his jobs involved working at a Subway restaurant.
Herman said he only lasted "four to six months" at that gig, however, because of an obsession with one specific lunch meat:
"I used to love the pastrami. They had those big walk-in refrigerators. I was standing in there one day, with the door shut, just throwing pastrami in my mouth.
It was like something out of a movie. I've got this bin of meat, throwing meat in my mouth, the door swings open and it's the owner.
He goes, 'Get out. Don't come back.'
"
Anybody who ever worked at a restaurant during their younger days can relate. Besides, delicious pastrami is worth risking it all if given the opportunity.
