Deshaun Watson Jokes He Wants the Cowboys to Draft Him

Zac WassinkFeb 22, 2017

Less than two weeks ago, former Texas A&M Aggies defensive end Myles Garrett campaigned for the Dallas Cowboys to draft him in a video released on ESPN.com. On Monday, former Clemson Tigers quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Deshaun Watson made a similar plea.

As David Humphrey of the Star-Telegram explained, while Watson was accepting the Davey O'Brien Award in Fort Worth, Texas, he made his case in front of Dallas head coach Jason Garrett.

"I like being in Fort Worth, Texas. And I told you, I promised you that I'll be back here. And I told Coach Garrett that if I'm back here, you have to draft me," Watson joked before the audience broke into laughter.

"Tony Romo is healthy. Dak [Prescott], I'm a huge fan," he continued. "Love that man. Had the privilege to get to know him this year and test him over the year. He's been successful. I did my part; you have to do your part."

The national champion even suggested the Cowboys could trade both Prescott and Romo to the Cleveland Browns in order to draft him.

You have to give Watson credit for having a sense of humor about the matter, as he's seemingly aware it's unlikely he'll become a member of the Cowboys this April.
