Nets Trade Rumors: Brooklyn Receiving Increased Interest in Bojan Bogdanovic

Joseph ZuckerFeb 21, 2017

With the NBA's worst record (9-47), the Brooklyn Nets are firmly in selling mode ahead of Thursday's deadline, and Bojan Bogdanovic may be available to the highest bidder.

The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday the Nets may be closer to trading Bogdanovic as they're receiving numerous offers from the rest of the league.

The 27-year-old is averaging 14.2 points a night—a figure somewhat inflated by the lack of scorers on Brooklyn's roster. He's shooting 44 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range, though, so he offers good value as a fourth or fifth scoring option.

The Vertical's Bobby Marks tweeted Bogdanovic's contract situation provides further incentive to any team looking to acquire him:

Bogdanovic will, however, be a liability on the defensive end. He has a 110.7 defensive rating, and the Nets are allowing 3.1 fewer points per 100 possessions when he's off the floor, according to NBA.com.

The motivation for trading Bogdanovic is obvious. The Nets are years away from being NBA title contenders, and Bogdanovic isn't the kind of player around whom Brooklyn can build for the future. The team might as well see what assets it can receive in return for the three-year veteran rather than lose him for nothing in free agency.

A contending team, on the other hand, could use Bogdanovic's shooting, whether he's coming off the bench or starting at the 3. With a stronger supporting cast, his deficiencies on defense would be covered up as well.
