Manchester United Transfer News: Malcom Speaks Out, Latest Rumours on Lyanco

Matt JonesFeb 20, 2017

Bordeaux starlet Malcom has denied speculation he's held discussions with Manchester United about a possible transfer.

The 19-year-old is enjoying an impressive season in Ligue 1 and has been linked to a string of Europe's biggest names as a result. However, when asked about possible negotiations with United and rivals Liverpool, the man himself insisted that's not the case.

"This thing about Liverpool (and) Manchester—I don't know anything about it," said Malcom, per Sean Kearns of Metro. "I'm very calm, I only think about Bordeaux today. I want to do my job well and give French fans lots of joy."

Here is a look at why so many are so excited about the youngster's potential:

Although he insisted he knew nothing of interest from the Premier League, the youngster spoke of known admiration from Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli. "I got to know, yeah, that Sampaoli likes my football, my game style. If the opportunity shows up, I'll be happy," he said. "If it doesn't, I'll keep working hard, humble as always."

The youngster has started 21 games this season and has produced some wonderful displays. Per Goal UK, he recently made a big impact in Bordeaux's 3-0 win over Guingamp in Ligue 1 with his work in the final third:

Malcom has wonderful technical ability. With dead balls, he can be extremely dangerous with his powerful left foot, while his ability to strike from distance has had defenders on edge this term. Additionally, he's smart in possession, has sharp acceleration and an array of tricks to take him past defenders.

There are capricious edges to his game, although they're slowly being ironed out with regular football with Bordeaux. With that in mind, it may be a little too early for the Brazilian to make the jump to a juggernaut of the European game like United.

Lyanco Interest Reported

According to the Daily Mirror (h/t Luke Gardener of the Daily Star), Manchester United have entered the race to sign Sao Paolo defender Lyanco.

The piece stated that both Juventus and Atletico Madrid have already made their interest in the 20-year-old known. As noted in the report, Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on securing another centre-back, with Benfica's Victor Lindelof strongly linked recently.

Lyanco may not be as attuned to the demands of European football compared to the Sweden international, but he's a player with a lot of quality. Here's a look at what he can offer:

The Brazilian international is an instinctive defender. For someone who's still young, he reads the game brilliantly, able to sniff out danger and rob the ball from attackers. It's no surprise that managers like Atletico's Diego Simeone and Juve's Massimiliano Allegri—who place great emphasis on defensive structure—are said to be keen.

United could definitely do with another centre-back. Eric Bailly has done enough to suggest he will be the mainstay of the Red Devils defence since signing from Villarreal, but the club will want to find a long-term partner for him. Lyanco looks to have the potential to fill that particular role.
