Phil Hughes Kept Removed Rib Following Surgery

Zac WassinkFeb 15, 2017

It appears Minnesota Twins pitcher Phil Hughes isn't ready to forget his awful 2016.

The right-hander lost seven of 11 starts and had a record of 1-7 with a 5.95 ERA before his season ended early because of injury. His leg was drilled by a line drive, which cracked a bone, and in July, he had surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.

During the operation, the 30-year-old had a rib removed, and he has decided to keep that bone, according to the Associated Press (h/t CBS Minnesota).

"I haven't decided what the next step is. I have a few ideas," he said. "Plating it with some sort of precious metal is one way to go. I'll figure out something to do with it before it corrodes."

That's one piece of memorabilia no other player can duplicate.
