4-Star CB Prospect Jalen Green Commits to Texas over LSU, Ohio State, Penn State
Jalen Green, a 4-star cornerback who hails from Houston, is officially headed to the University of Texas.
247Sports' EJ Holland first relayed word of Green's decision Friday.
"The coaches bring it," Green said of the Longhorns, per Holland. "I like Coach (Tom) Herman and what he is doing with the program."
Green has been considered one of the nation's top cornerbacks for some time now, and the rankings reflect that. According to Scout.com, Green is the 21st-ranked player overall and third-ranked cornerback among all 2018 recruits.
He's also the second-ranked cornerback in the state of Texas and the entire Midland Region.
According to Greg Powers' official evaluation at Scout, "Green is a physical corner who is not afraid to come up and press the action with receivers at the line of scrimmage. Green has good size and speed. He is pretty big already physically so he can take on or match up with the big-bodied type of wide receivers."
At 6'1'' and 170 pounds, Green looks like a prototypical press corner who could evolve into a real disruptive force along the boundary. As his tape shows, Green is also a superb athlete who had the chops necessary to line up as a receiver and quarterback at times as a junior in high school.
While LSU was long considered the frontrunner for Green's services, it turns out the Longhorns made that status moot.
Texas has now secured commitments from several high-profile 2018 defenders, including Green and 4-star safeties B.J. Foster, Caden Sterns and Demarvion Overshown.
