Notre Dame Lands 4-Star CB Prospect Braden Lenzy

Four-star cornerback Braden Lenzy announced his commitment to Notre Dame in a tweet posted Wednesday:

"The family feel honestly," Lenzy said of why he chose Notre Dame, per David McKinney of Rivals. "When I was there I felt so welcomed and it was just so easy to see myself there."

Ranked as the No. 134 recruit in the nation by Scout.com, Lenzy drew interest from nearly every high-profile school on the West Coast. Scout ranks him as the 14th-best cornerback nationally and first at his position in the state of Oregon.

Stanford and Oregon led all Western schools early in the process. 247Sports' Crystal Ball predictions gave Lenzy a 50 percent chance of staying near home at Oregon, while Stanford and Michigan State each had 25 percent.

The Spartans were one of the earliest major schools to offer Lenzy outside the West Coast. He also unofficially visited the school last December. Notre Dame moved into the mix toward the end of 2016 as well, and the Irish hosted Lenzy as part of their junior day in February.

The visit seemed to play heavily into Lenzy's decision, as he came away impressed with coach Brian Kelly and his staff.

"Coach Kelly was great," Lenzy said, per Tom Loy of 247Sports. "He's a really good dude and I really appreciated his time. He made it very clear that I'm one of their top targets and that they were going to recruit me very hard. It actually surprised me at how funny he was. I could see myself playing for him, for sure."

Listed at 6'1" and 175 pounds, Lenzy will have to put on some weight at the collegiate level. He's played wide receiver in high school, so he has a full-scale working knowledge of how the position goes from a mental standpoint and should already be ahead of some players in that aspect. It's possible he will wind up playing on the offensive side of the ball as well; some recruiting outlets have him listed as an athlete rather than a true corner.

It'll just be a matter of seeing where he fits best for the Irish. Notre Dame now sits second behind Penn State among all teams in the 2018 recruiting class, per Scout.
