The Silence of Greg Blache

Jarrett CarterOct 9, 2009

Okay, so let’s forget the weirdness factor of Greg Blache refusing to talk with the media for the rest of the season. Let’s follow the bloggers’ creed and do what we do best:

Speculate.

My instant reaction is that Daniel Snyder barred Blache from talking, because he knows he’ll be interim coach in a week or two, and doesn’t want him fielding the inevitable barrage of personnel questions on a weekly basis.

Yeah, that’s a little out of left field, but certainly not impossible for this team. And if LaVar Arrington thinks its possible, than dangit, it can happen.

The other thought here, and this is probably more on line with the truth, is that he genuinely has some kind of personal issue evolving in his life and doesn’t need the media dragging him down. I mean, we all saw how he went in on Trevor Matich for no apparent reason.

Throw that in with some other choice words Blache has had for reporters over the last few months, and you get the sense that he may be dealing with bigger demons than the slant routes his corners consistently give up by playing 10 yards off the ball.

And finally, he may just not like Washington reporters. But if the team told the NFL that Blache was prone to go Iron Mike on Thom Loverro, and perhaps provided some medical documentation supporting such, for the safety of everyone involved, they just remove him from the equation.

Blache was either esteemed enough or forwarded Snyder enough "Joke of the Day" texts to be named to the position before the head coach even came to town. There’s no legitimate reason for him to not be accountable to paying fans about successes or deficiencies of his unit.

Unless, the legitimate reason is indeed, one we have no business knowing.
