DeAndre Jordan Was so Skeptical of All-Star Chances He Booked a Hawaiian Vacay
DeAndre Jordan was pretty shocked to get the news that he'd be balling in the All-Star Game this year.
In fact, he was so sure he wasn't New Orleans-bound that he was ready to pull the trigger on a Hawaiian vacation for his family.
The nine-year veteran told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears that he has become so accustomed to being overlooked for the weekend that he automatically looks at the time as a vacation. So the news that it was finally happening took him off guard.
"After practice on Thursday, I had my trip to Hawaii ready to go...I was thinking that they would have known at practice if I made it or not. They didn’t say nothing at practice, so I was like, ‘Cool, I didn’t make it. I’m about to set my trip up.’
"
He had to call to notify his mother and a few other family members to hold off on packing for the beach, but it's all well and good. For Jordan, the chance to finally play as an All-Star trumps a tropical family vacation.
"Nine years. Some years I thought I was going to make it. Some years I knew I wasn’t going to make it. This was pretty exciting.
