Coming Off First Loss, UM Needs Minor To Be a MAJOR Part In Iowa Game

Isaac SmithOct 8, 2009

So first off, congratulations to the Michigan State Spartans on somewhat righting the ship last week against Michigan. Through three and a half quarters, they held Michigan to negative rushing yards for the game.

Negative rushing yards? The same Michigan team that was averaging 240 yards per game on the ground? Yes. Michigan finished the game with a flurry but still only managed to attain 28 yards on 28 carries on the ground.

Let's see; that makes 1.0 yards per rush...

This week Michigan faces a mammoth task when they head into Kinnick Stadium to face the Iowa Hawkeyes. And you thought MSU gave Michigan fits on the ground. Iowa only allows 122 yards per game on the ground. Michigan will have to have AT LEAST that many in order to have a ghost of a chance of winning.

They cannot let Iowa's front four stuff the run for the entire game like Michigan State did last weekend.

Brandon Minor must have a career game this week to help out his young freshman quarterback, Forcier.

I said it last week: Michigan must run the ball on the road. Everyone saw Tate Forcier last week when he led the Wolverines to a comeback and tied it at 20. Everyone ALSO saw him throw an interception in overtime that ended Michigan's chances of victory.

Minor must be a big part of this game to take some pressure of Forcier. He and the offensive line of Michigan must step up and play a huge part if the Wolverines have any chance to beat the undefeated Hawkeyes.

Iowa has 10 interceptions as a team. Five of them come from sophomore strong safety, Tyler Sash. Keeping the ball on the ground is a good idea if Michigan can get solid yards off the ground game.

This game is a must win for Michigan. Not for the standings, but to right the ship. This is a quality Iowa team. They are solid offensively and defensively. It will take a huge effort from the O-line and Michigan's running backs. Minor will be the key this weekend. Go Blue!!
