Recap
Five-time champion Van Barneveld put together a fantastic showing on Tuesday, dropping several high finishes on his way to the second round.
He and Green traded 86 finishes before the Dutchman pulled off a fantastic 156, setting himself up for a break of throw and the first set with a 64.
PDC Darts noted both did well with their finishes:
Barney continued his fine form in the second set, taking out 120 to grab another early lead. Green again landed one double of his own before the Dutchman took out 80 to move within a single set of the win.
In the final set, two quick legs set Barney up for the win, and a finish on double eight ended debutant Green's tournament.
Per Live Darts, Barney expressed his delight at playing at the World Championship once again:
The same outlet also noted his potential run at the title looks remarkably difficult:
Whitlock got off to a fast start against Dragutin Horvat, sweeping the opening set without too much trouble. The Wizard continued his strong showing, winning five straight before Horvat finally got on the board, and as shared by Live Darts, his first leg didn't lead to a turnaround:
The Wizard landed a 15-darter and took out 92 to start the third set, added to his lead with a fantastic 170 finish and took out 158 to finish the job.
Boris Koltsov started the night off with a bang, running out to a quick lead over Horvat. The Russian surrendered just a single leg on his way to grabbing the first set, landing checkouts of 97 and 84.

Horvat didn't let the setback get him down, however, landing three straight legs to take the second set, while also bagging his first 180. He followed it up by coming back from a two-leg deficit, taking out 53 in the decider to set up his match against Whitlock.
In Tuesday's other first-round match, Dolan and Christian Kist played out a back-and-forth encounter, where both men swept the first two sets. Dolan took out 78 and 102 for another clean sweep in the third and lost just a single leg in the fourth set, booking his spot in the next round.
