The Hype Bros won a Battle Royal for the No. 1 contendership on the Dec. 13 edition of SmackDown Live, but their time as the top challengers was short-lived.
Zack Ryder suffered a knee injury in the match and had the following to say regarding his condition:
Mojo Rawley also commented on Twitter and expressed uncertainty regarding where he will go from here with his partner out of action:
While Ryder's injury prevented The Hype Bros from seizing a golden opportunity, it opened the door for another team to step up and challenge the Wyatts.
Although every team wants to be vying for the Tag Team Championships, doing so against The Wyatt Family isn't necessarily ideal considering how dominant they have been as of late.
Ever since Randy Orton joined the stable, they have arguably enjoyed more success than ever before.
In addition to Wyatt and Orton being the sole survivors for SmackDown at Survivor Series, they teamed up to defeat Rhyno and Heath Slater to become the SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
Also, while Luke Harper wasn't part of that match, the Wyatts will defend the tag team titles under Freebird Rules, which means any of the three members can compete similarly to The New Day, when they held the Raw Tag Team Championships.
Heath Slater and Rhyno, American Alpha and The Usos will all have a chance to derail the momentum the Wyatts have built up in recent weeks, but a title change in the near future seems unlikely.
Since The Wyatt Family was almost certain to retain against The Hype Bros, one can assume that the same result will occur in their newest feud and that a lengthy title reign is in the cards.
