The New Day vs. Sheamus and Cesaro: Winner and Reaction for WWE Roadblock 2016
On the heels of breaking Demolition's 478-day title-reign record, The New Day dropped the Raw Tag Team Championships to Cesaro and Sheamus in a losing effort at Roadblock: End of the Line Sunday.
The New Day often outsmarted its opponents to maintain its hold on the tag titles, but Cesaro and Sheamus gained the tactical edge Sunday night.

Cesaro faked a tag to Sheamus, which led Kofi Kingston to believe Cesaro was the legal man in the ring. He delivered Trouble and Paradise and went for the pin. Sheamus, who remained the legal man, caught Kofi off guard and secured the pinfall to capture the tag belts.

After the match, Sheamus tweeted a picture holding the belts:
On the go-home episode of Raw prior to Roadblock, The New Day was tasked with defending the titles in a Triple Threat match against Cesaro and Sheamus as well as the team of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
The duo of Big E and Kingston managed to come out on top, which set off a raucous celebration. The New Day popped bottles of champagne but doused Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon in the process, which put them in a precarious position.
WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens convinced Stephanie to force The New Day to defend its titles against him and Chris Jericho, but Raw general manager Mick Foley complicated matters by putting Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in the match as well.
Although The New Day nearly lost the titles on several occasions, Xavier Woods scored the victory for his team and secured its place in the history books.
After the triumph, Kofi expressed his joy on Twitter:
Woods followed suit and made mention of the fact that few believed The New Day would be successful early in its tenure together:
The stable even received recognition from a somewhat unexpected source, as the Swiss Superman congratulated it despite losing to it earlier in the night:
While The New Day was given a few days to enjoy its triumph, it was forced to regroup quickly, as new No. 1 contenders were determined at Tribute to the Troops.
In a Fatal 4-Way match, Cesaro and Sheamus beat Gallows and Anderson, the Golden Truth and the Shining Stars to get another shot at the straps.
Although Cesaro and Sheamus were initially reluctant when Foley put them together after they wrestled against each other in a best-of-seven series, they have shown much better chemistry as of late.
That started when they fought side-by-side in a barroom brawl, which seemed to get them on the same page.
With most of their issues in the past, Cesaro and Sheamus posed a massive challenge to The New Day Sunday and looked like major threats to take the titles.
The New Day is more resourceful than any team in recent memory, however, and the numbers advantage often proves too much for the opposition to overcome.
That didn't stop Cesaro and Sheamus from prevailing, and it stands to reason that the two teams are now set to engage in a power struggle for tag team supremacy for the foreseeable future.
