Former WWE Superstar Booker T to Run for Mayor of Houston
December 13, 2016
Former WWE star Booker T. Huffman formally announced Tuesday he intends to run for mayor of Houston in 2019.
The Hall of Famer posted a statement on Twitter:
Booker T isn't the first wrestler to express an interest in running for an elected office.
Terrance "Rhyno" Gerin won the Republican primary for the 15th district in the Michigan House of Representatives but lost the general election to the Democratic candidate, Abdullah Hammoud.
Most famously, Jesse Ventura served as Minnesota's governor from 1999 to 2003.
Booker T made his political ambitions known when speaking with Rhyno during an episode of his radio show Heated Conversations on Saturday (via CBS Houston's Joshua Reese).
"You are overqualified for the job," Rhyno said of his former colleague. "Wrestling not only prepares you for life but it prepares you for positions like that because you feel the emotion from the people you know what they want, you’ve built yourself from where you were to where you’re at now."
