Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Marquinhos and Breel Embolo
Manchester United's chances of signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos have plummeted after the 22-year-old revealed his desire to stay on at the Parc des Princes.
Per George Bellshaw of Metro, United are planning a move for a new centre-back in January, and Marquinhos was one of their potential targets.
However, the Brazil international has now said he is happy at PSG, and it seems unlikely United will be able to tempt him away, per Telefoot (via Bellshaw): "This is my fourth year at PSG. I have adapted to life here and speak French. Plus my family is feeling well in Paris. Things are going well and I would love to stay here. I hope to sign a renewal. It does not only depend on me, but it is looking good."

Marquinhos's current deal with PSG expires in 2019, so there is still plenty of time for the French club to tie him to new terms. The Ligue 1 champions will likely be delighted to hear he is happy in Paris, as he is one of their key defenders.
While the news is disappointing for United, their centre-back unit is looking much better than it did a few weeks ago, so they arguably do not need more recruits.
Per football writer Colin Millar, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been brilliant of late while Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly have been sidelined through injury, and Daley Blind is also a decent option at centre-back:
If Jones and Rojo continue to perform at their current level, then the defensive depth available to United manager Jose Mourinho will be excellent and the team's apparent inability to sign Marquinhos won't be an issue.
Elsewhere, it has been revealed by RB Leipzig's sporting director Ralf Rangnick that United put in a bid to sign Schalke 04 striker Breel Embolo in the summer.

According to Rangnick, Breel, who moved from FC Basel to Schalke in June, initially wanted to move to RB Leipzig, but the German outfit were put off when they heard of a €40 million (£33.5 million) bid from the Red Devils, per Dan Zeqiri in the Telegraph:
"The player and the consultant wanted to join us and we agreed Breel’s contract with them.
We were not very far apart [with Basel]. Our offer was already very high for the circumstances.
We wanted to let a few days pass, but then suddenly there was an alleged offer from Manchester United of over €40 million. I said to myself: 'Okay, if a club wants to spend so much money on a player, then they will make an offer within a week.'
When after 14 days there was still no specific offer from Manchester United, we pulled out. We didn't want to be in the passenger role.
"
Switzerland international Embolo, 19, looks like an impressive talent. He has netted twice and provided one assist so far in 342 minutes of Bundesliga action this season, per WhoScored.com.
If United were indeed interested in him in the summer, they will likely still be tracking him and could make a move for him in future if he makes good on his potential.
