Chris Paul vs. Pelicans: Stats, Highlights and Reaction

Alec NathanDec 10, 2016

Chris Paul was seeing 20/20 on Saturday night, and not just because he underwent a LASIK procedure in the offseason to improve his vision.

In the Los Angeles Clippers' 133-105 romp over the New Orleans Pelicans, Paul finished with 20 points (8-of-16 shooting), 20 assists and zero turnovers. It marked the first time in Paul's career that he tallied at least 20 points and 20 assists in a single game.

Paul also became the first player since 1983 to finish a game with at least 20 points and 20 dimes without committing a turnover.

DeAndre Jordan, your thoughts?

Paul was in total command of the Clippers offense throughout the win, and he had the Pelicans on skates during the masterful display:

The Clippers outscored the Pelicans by 22 points during Paul's 30 minutes on the floor, and the 31-year-old filled it up from all over the floor on a night when he shot 50 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc:

On the distributive front, Paul's showing reinforced just how prolific he's been with the ball in his hands this season.

According to NBA.com's player-tracking data, Paul entered Saturday ranked fifth in the NBA with 20.7 points created via his assists per game. Paul also ranked second among all players with 67.8 passes made a night, and he held true to that number Saturday when he racked up 66 passes on a team-high 88 touches.

A tactician of the highest order, Paul has reinforced time and again during the Clippers' 17-7 start to the season just how impactful he can be when L.A. has its full cast of characters healthy and humming by his side.

And as long as he's drilling elbow jumpers, finding rolling bigs with seemingly effortless pocket passes and orchestrating one of the league's most potent offenses with a deft hand, Paul should continue to keep the Clippers in the Western Conference title conversation despite the Golden State Warriors' dominance to this point in the season.

Postgame Reaction

According to NBC LA's Michael J. Duarte, Paul said he was most pleased by the way he took care of the ball:

"He’s a legend," Jordan later said, according to the Orange County Register's Dan Woike.

Doc Rivers later added that, "Visually, it looked beautiful," per Woike.
