WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from December 7

Erik BeastonDec 7, 2016

Osaka, Japan was the setting for Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe, an NXT Championship rematch from TakeOver around which the entire December 7 episode of the brand's WWE Network broadcast was hyped.

As it turned out, the show featured several interesting developments that will prove integral to the product moving forward.

Two tag teams wasted little time presenting themselves to new champions Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. Ember Moon stated her case for a shot at the NXT Women's Championship but another woman made her interest in the title apparent.

Sanity was in action, but it was a mysterious newcomer whose appearance drew the attention of fans and left them wondering whether he was aligned with the faction.

Find out everything that went down on Wednesday's show with this exclusive recap, featuring grades, highlights and analysis of every segment.

DIY's Championship Celebration

1 of 4

Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano made their way to the ring, celebrating their NXT Tag Team Championship victory from TakeOver: Toronto and did not hesitate to pander to the crowd and celebrate with the fans who had supported them for so long.

Paul Ellering and The Authors of Pain interrupted, followed closely by The Revival.

The winners of The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic took down Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson before Ellering promised the next era of tag team wrestling would be written by his charges.

Analysis

This was the perfect way to shine the spotlight on the tag team division post-TakeOver.

The babyface champions DIY had their opportunity to bask in the glory of the fans, The Authors of Pain were established as the great threat in the division and The Revival made it clear they will hang around the division, seeking to regain the titles they lent credibility to.

A perfect segment that did not go on too long and accomplished everything it sought to.

No Way Jose and Rich Swann vs. Sanity (Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe)

2 of 4

Prior to the match, Eric Young spit and stomped on the leather jacket of Sawyer Fulton, signifying his exit from Sanity.

Cruiserweight champion Rich Swann found himself isolated from partner No Way Jose early, the victim of Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young's brutal and tenacious attack.

The action broke down upon Jose's hot tag into the match, to the point that Swann leveled Wolfe twisting dive, only to have his face shoved into the ring post.

On the other side of the ring, Damo made his debut, laying out Jose. From there, Young scored the win for the enigmatic faction with his wheelbarrow neckbreaker.

Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe defeated No Way Jose and Rich Swann

Analysis

The Sanity faction may need more defining, but this was a great way to create interest in the group.

Damo looks like a world beater, a massive mountain of man. That he neither pledged allegiance or opposition to Sanity leaves some wondering what his relationship with Young and Company may be.

Swann and Jose are a dynamic tag team, arguably the most fun in WWE, but they were perfectly fine doing to job here.

Ember Moon vs. Kimber Lee

3 of 4

Ember Moon looked to continue her journey to championship contention Wednesday night, battling premier independent competitor Kimber Lee.

Lee proved a tougher test for Moon than one would have expected, keeping her grounded and using her strength advantage to overwhelm her.

Moon fired back, though, delivering her flipping forearm in the corner and obliterating her opponent with the Eclipse for the pin-fall victory.

Result

Ember Moon defeated Kimber Lee

Grade

C

Analysis

Ember Moon is clearly the next challenger to Asuka's NXT Women's Championship, even if the brand did tease an encounter between the Empress of Tomorrow and Sanity's Nikki Cross.

Her dynamic offense is outstanding, and her finisher is one of the most dazzling in the industry. With that said, her match with Kimber Lee was a bit of a mess. They appeared to be on different pages at points but recovered enough to deliver a hot finish.

NXT Championship Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe

4 of 4

Shinsuke Nakamura returned to his home country of Japan to challenge Samoa Joe in the main event of Wednesday's show.

The outcome of the match was never in doubt as the contest had been taped Saturday, yet that did not hurt the moment, which was still an emotional homecoming for the most charismatic star under the WWE umbrella.

Nakamura fended off incredible knee pain to deliver his trademark knee strike from the middle rope, followed by Kinshasa. With Joe unconscious in the middle of the ring, the resilient Nakamura put every pound of body weight on Joe and pinned him to regain the title he lost just days earlier.

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Samoa Joe to win the NXT Championship

Grade

B+

Analysis

This was another strong showing from Nakamura and Joe, even if it was just a step below their work at TakeOver: Toronto.

Putting Nakamura over in his home country created a tremendous moment and helped establish him as the face of the brand. The title switching numerous times over the series of matches may have rubbed some fans the wrong way, as if the company was hot-shotting it, but it lent credibility to the rivalry and made every match mean that much more.
