Johnny Manziel Predicts Lamar Jackson Will Win 2016 Heisman Trophy
Johnny Manziel might be out of football, but he still has thoughts about the players following in his footsteps.
The former Cleveland Browns quarterback was questioned about Cam Newton by TMZ Sports Saturday, but when the topic turned to the Heisman Trophy, he was quick to give his prediction.
"Lamar Jackson's taking it home," Manziel said.
The Louisville quarterback is one of five finalists for the prestigious award, along with Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook, Clemson's Deshaun Watson and Michigan's Jabrill Peppers. According to OddsShark, Jackson is the overwhelming favorite at 1-40.
Manziel gets a vote for the Heisman Trophy as a winner in 2012, and it's easy to understand what he likes in Jackson. Like the former Texas A&M star, Jackson put up incredible numbers both through the air and on the ground. He has 3,390 passing yards and 1,538 rushing yards with 51 total touchdowns. Manziel was responsible for 47 touchdowns during his award-winning season.
As for what could come next for Jackson, Manziel is hoping the young quarterback doesn't face the same situation as he did.
When asked about potentially going to Cleveland, the 24-year-old wagged his finger and said, "No. Lamar's gonna go somewhere else."
Jackson isn't eligible for the NFL draft as a sophomore, but he could potentially be a top option in the 2018 class.
