Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Quincy Promes, Geoffrey Kondogbia

James DudkoDec 5, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could reportedly bid for Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes in the January transfer window. Klopp is said to be concerned about his attacking options once Sadio Mane leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations and sees Promes as an ideal replacement.

The Sun's Sam Morgan credits Klopp with interest in 24-year-old Netherlands international Promes. He could make the interest concrete before Mane leaves to represent Senegal in the New Year:

"

Liverpool are ready to swoop for winger Quincy Promes in order to boost their attacking options when Sadio Mane leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Jurgen Klopp will need to bolster his frontline with a number of injuries ravaging his squad of attacking options.

And it appears the Kop boss, who is without Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, thinks the time is right to snare Spartak Moscow star Promes.

Morgan also noted how Klopp has admired Promes since his days in charge at Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2014. The reports also detail how Spartak are already considering the winger's replacement, Lokomotiv Moscow's Aleksandr Samedov.

Promes is a natural fit for the type of game Klopp has brought to Anfield. It's a style of play based on pace, energy and ingenuity.

Klopp has Liverpool pressing relentlessly and in numbers. They win the ball high and break at speed through rapid transitions between defence and attack.

The Klopp blueprint places a lot of demands on the players along the forward line. They need to be both swift and tireless, qualities Mane has embodied since joining the Merseyside club in the summer.

The former Southampton star has scored seven times and provided three assists in Premier League action, according to WhoScored.com. His quickness and perceptive movement would be missed, as Liverpool try to maintain a title challenge in the new year.

Promes has similar attributes to Mane, traits Klopp covets in the final third. He makes sense as a replacement, albeit temporarily, for one of the key attackers in Liverpool's squad.

Geoffrey Kondogbia Available for Loan

Inter Milan midfield destroyer Geoffrey Kondogbia is another target on Klopp's transfer radar. The rugged Frenchman could reportedly be made available in January, according to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Goal).

Kondogbia's availability would surely pique Klopp's interest, per the reports: "Jurgen Klopp is reported to be in the market for further midfield steel and could make a move now that the path has been cleared, although any deal will cost around €22 million (£18.6m)either as an upfront sum or as a commitment to buy in a loan agreement."

This is not the first time Klopp and Liverpool have been linked with Kondogbia. Back in October, Italian source Transfermarketweb (h/t Dan Gibbs of the Daily Express) reported Klopp had talked with decision-makers at Anfield about possibly sanctioning a move in January.

Kondogbia may have struggled in Italy, but he is an exceptional talent when on form. The 23-year-old is a true powerhouse with the brawn and defensive instincts to break up play and win the ball. He also boasts a sweet left foot to both thread passes between the lines and hammer fearsome long-range shots toward goal.

Kondogbia would be a more accomplished holding player then either Jordan Henderson or Emre Can, provided Klopp could revive his game. If so, Liverpool's feeble defence would receive the greater level of protection it needs.

Klopp has the Reds in the mix for the title, but keeping them there will require some smart fine-tuning of his current squad. Both Promes and Kondogbia make sense as targets this January.
