NCAA Stop Making Excuses to Keep The BCS Around
When it comes down to National Championship Games 2008's was a prime example of fun but should it have been those two teams? While Florida was an undisputed candidate, should the Oklahoma Sooners have been playing them? Personally, I would've loved to see that USC defense with 3 first day draft picks LBs playing against Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow. I can see it now, Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing, and Clay Matthews Jr. going up against that potently fast Florida offense and possible 2009 NFL Rookie of the Year Mark Sanchez having his way with that Florida defense. That is what I want to see in a national championship game not some team who only has a good QB, Sam Bradford.
It's getting really old hearing the NCAA's excuses for not changing to it's out of date BCS style system to an NFL-like playoff system. It's annoying to see teams like UGA, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Utah, and Texas be the odd men out. All have shown us time and time again they can play on the big stage. The only thing Oklahoma has shown me is that they cannot play on that stage, no offense Sooner fans. If the NCAA really cared, which they do not, about having the best play the best they would have a playoff system with the top 8 teams in the BCS rankings have a playoff.
The NCAA says we have to look out for the student-athlete's safety. Oh please! I know you guys saw UGA's Caleb King get smashed in the face and no flag was thrown. So don't say you don't want the players to get hurt by playing a few more games, because when they go to the NFL they will play a minimum of 16 games, not including preseason, and maybe an additional 4 games to make the total 20 games if they reach the super bowl. So what would 3 or 4 more games hurt for a college athlete?
Another excuse the NCAA makes is we would lose so much money if we dropped the BCS system. Well thanks to me and many other Americans with common sense we have developed a system to end all of your worries. For the top 8 they will play like it is a playoff and every game of every round would be a bowl game. For example: 8 Cincy vs. 1 Florida call it the Cotton Bowl, 2 Texas vs. 7 USC call it the Rose Bowl, 3 Bama vs. 6 Boise State call it the Fiesta Bowl, and 4 LSU vs 5 Va Tech call it the Gator Bowl. Next Round would be 1 Florida vs 4 LSU call it the Sugar Bowl and 2 Texas vs 3 Bama call it the Orange Bowl, and for the final round call the it the BCS Championship. This way we can still have all the other bowls as well such as Capital One, Emerald, Champs Sports, Chick-fil-A, Alamo, and Outback bowl games it's just that the top 8 teams will be the only ones allowed to play for the National Championship game.
So if the NCAA has any further questions they can contact me and I can explain all the other details that require common sense to figure out. This way not only will you make money that you would have initially made, but you'll also make more because instead of a Florida Gator fan buying just one ticket he can buy 3 tickets for the 3 rounds his team would play in.
