served his community while mending law-enforcement relations at the same time.
The Cleveland Cavaliers head coach held a charity event in his hometown of Mexico, Missouri, over the weekend in which police officers handed out turkeys and food to members of the community.
The purpose was not only to provide a valuable service to those in need but also to establish a rapport and ease potential tensions between law enforcement and the community it serves.
As told Dave of ESPN.com, he loves to do what he can to help those who grew up the way he did.
"Being broke and poor—I mean, you grow up in the environment I grew up in, grew up hard and grew up poor.
So, I mean, if you grow up like that and you're able to make it to this level and be blessed the way I've been blessed, it's always great to give back. And having certain other people enjoy situations to the best of their ability...I love doing it and I'll continue to do it.
