Arsenal Transfer News: Julian Draxler Boost, Latest on Lucas Perez Loan Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenNov 21, 2016

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has admitted the club could be open to selling reported Arsenal transfer target Julian Draxler, while the agent of Lucas Perez has shot down rumours his client could leave the club on loan in January.

Speaking to Sport1 (h/t TalkSport), Allofs discussed Paris Saint-Germain's attempt to sign Draxler during the summer, with Les Parisiens rumoured to have submitted a massive £59 million offer.

Draxler openly asked for a move, but Die Wolfe declined to sell the midfielder just one year after he moved to the club from Schalke 04. Allofs now says the club might approach things differently in the future: "We'd evaluate it differently now and maybe give our approval the next time."

The 23-year-old was a wanted man after a wonderful showing at UEFA Euro 2016, and it was no surprise to see the likes of PSG and the Gunners push for a transfer, especially after the Germany international made a plea to the club to sell him.

When manager Dieter Hecking reacted to transfer rumours, saying he wouldn't be sold, Draxler told Bild (via ESPN FC's Stefan Buczko):

"

One could have talked to me personally before making public declarations. After the Euro 2016 I clearly said to [Hecking] that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach is aware of that for the past three weeks.

I am surprised that matters regarding my [future] are being communicated in the media. I expected that to go differently. For example that someone approaches me and asks me for my views instead.

We shortly texted. I talked on the phone with coach Hecking. Two days after the semifinal at the Euro I explained my point of view and expressed my wish that I want to leave the club. Now I'm back in Germany and things are being communicated via the media rather than with me in person. Now I also wanted to make myself heard.

"

When it became clear a transfer wouldn't come to pass, Draxler committed himself to Wolfsburg. He's been a regular starter for the club in the 2016-17 season, and while he hasn't been at his best, his talent has surfaced in flashes.

With the versatility to play on both wings or as a traditional attacking midfielder, Draxler has been a key component of Joachim Low's Germany teams. The youngster has often reserved his best football for the biggest stage, and he was arguably Die Mannschaft's top performer at Euro 2016.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

Draxler is a supremely talented player, but issues with health and consistency have followed the midfielder from Gelsenkirchen to Wolfsburg. He's yet to play a minute of football in November, and his injury history isn't pretty, via Transfermarkt.

Teams will overlook those red flags based on his raw talent, however, and if Wolfsburg are now ready to deal, expect both PSG and Arsenal to elbow their way toward the front of the queue.

Elsewhere, rumours Perez could be looking for a loan deal in January emerged on Monday, but the Spaniard's agent rubbished those claims just hours later.

Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star's Marc Williams) published the rumours early on Monday, but the same outlet checked in with Rodrigo Fernandez Llovelle, the agent, who quickly dismissed the reports.

Per Alessandro Di Gioia (via Calciomercato's Edo Dalmonte), Fernandez Llovelle said manager Arsene Wenger is satisfied with the former Espanyol man, and the only reason he hasn't played all that much is his injury.

Perez moved to the Emirates Stadium toward the end of the summer transfer window but has barely featured for the Gunners so far. He flashed his talent in two appearances in the EFL Cup but has since been sidelined with a knock to his ankle.
