Prescott Owns 2nd-Longest Winning Streak for Rookie QB Since 1970

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 21, 2016

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott earned his ninth consecutive victory Sunday with a 27-17 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

In doing so, Prescott passed Kyle Orton for the second-longest winning streak for a rookie signal-caller since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, per ESPN Stats & Info (via Elias Sports Bureau).

The only quarterback owning a longer winning streak is Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who rattled off 13 straight in his rookie campaign (excluding the playoffs). The triumph also gave the Dallas Cowboys their longest single-season winning streak in franchise history.

Two rookies—Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott—have been instrumental to the team's success this season. When added to a solid offensive line and an improved defense, the Cowboys have quickly reversed course from a team that went just 4-12 a season ago.

Prescott entered training camp as the clear backup to longtime starter Tony Romo. However, a back injury during the preseason sidelined Romo until this week and gave the rookie a shot at proving his worth. He's unquestionably taken advantage of the opportunity, leading Dallas to a league-best 9-1 record through 10 games.

A fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State, Prescott was the eighth quarterback selected in the 2016 NFL draft. While a couple of other rookie quarterbacks have enjoyed moderate success as starters, nobody has come close to matching Prescott's level of play.

Despite the availability of Romo for the first time Sunday against Baltimore, the Cowboys stuck with the hot hand under center. It paid dividends once again, and the early results suggest that Dallas may have found its next franchise quarterback.
