WWE Roadblock 2016: Full Card Predictions After Survivor Series

Erik BeastonNov 22, 2016

With Survivor Series in the rearview mirror, WWE Raw has set its sights on WWE Roadblock 2016, a live WWE Network special that will feature the biggest and brightest the brand has to offer.

The events of Sunday's broadcast and the subsequent fallout on the Nov. 21 episode of Raw have given fans a peek at the matches they can expect one week prior to Christmas.

Are they the correct choices, why may they work and how might they affect the brand in the lead-up to the show?

Take a look with these prediction for each match on the Roadblock card post-Survivor Series.

Cruiserweight Championship Match: Rich Swann vs. The Brian Kendrick

1 of 6

Few cruiserweights have been able to capture the attention of Raw fans the way Rich Swann has. He is flashy and charismatic and possesses an arsenal of strikes and high-flying maneuvers that help him stand out from the pack.

He has also scored several quality wins in tag team and singles competition, setting him up perfectly as the next challenger to The Brian Kendrick's Cruiserweight Championship.

With no other obvious matches at this point, giving the nod to Swann as Kendrick's next opponent is the most logical step WWE Creative can take at this point.

Especially considering the apathy that the division has been met with to this point, an energetic star like Swann is exactly what it needs.

Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman

2 of 6

Fans got their first hint of the Sami Zayn-Braun Strowman feud in the lead-up to Survivor Series, when The Underdog from the Underground stood up to the massive behemoth. Strowman eliminated Zayn to earn a spot on Team Raw, with Zayn recovering and competing for the Intercontinental Championship.

Unsuccessful in his attempt to dethrone The Miz, Zayn could face more punishment from Stephanie McMahon, who verbally dressed him down once already. What better way to put him through the ringer than a match against the unstoppable force he has proved incapable of beating to this point?

If anyone can drag a strong match out of Strowman, it is Zayn. One of the best workers in the industry, he plays the role of underdog so well that he can convince fans to invest themselves in any story he is trying to tell.

Strowman has proved to be a solid big man, making him an ideal opponent for Zayn.

Their battle Monday on Raw, a one-sided ass-kicking by Strowman, sets the stage for the resilient Zayn to pull off a monumental upset.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. Cesaro and Sheamus

3 of 6

Cesaro and Sheamus secured the victory for Team Raw over Team SmackDown Live in a 10-on-10 elimination match at Survivor Series.

If that win does not establish them as the top contenders to The New Day's Raw Tag Team Championships, nothing will. They were impressive as they rolled through The Usos, showing improved teamwork as they defeated the two-time tag champions.

Just 24 hours later on Raw, Cesaro and Sheamus again came up short in their quest to dethrone the champions. With that said, the defeat was in a fluky manner that did nothing to hurt the credibility of the challengers.

The incredible chemistry between the two teams, not to mention their unfinished business, should lead to one last battle for supremacy.

Raw Women's Championship Match: Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair

4 of 6

With Sasha Banks seemingly out of the equation, Charlotte Flair will now focus her attention on Bayley, who she attacked after the popular babyface upstaged her in a victory at Survivor Series.

The competitors have faced off against each other before as half of the infamous Four Horsewomen in NXT. They were integral to the overall success of that brand and its women's division. Now, they are on track to battle over the top prize for female competitors in WWE.

The brutal attack that the Raw women's champion unleashed on Bayley earned her the wrath of a fanbase madly in love with the consummate underdog.

Can the hated, second-generation competitor add one more victory to her undefeated pay-per-view record?

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho

5 of 6

From the moment Chris Jericho interfered at Hell in a Cell and cost Seth Rollins the chance to become WWE universal champion, the issues between Y2J and The Architect have intensified with every passing week.

The best friend of Kevin Owens and the Superstar keeping Rollins from achieving his goal, Jericho has found himself on the receiving end of a Pedigree or two in recent weeks.

The question is whether WWE Creative sees Jericho as someone who should be beating Rollins at this point in his career. He is a veteran whose greatest effect on WWE television will be putting over the future crop of stars, but he is so over that it is worth investing in him at a time when legitimate stars are at a premium.

Thanks to jumbled booking, Jericho is a hotter commodity than Rollins, an indictment on Creative more than anything.

The in-ring action would be great, but as has been the issue with WWE programming of late, the layout of the match and the booking decisions that unfold within will be key to its success.

WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens

6 of 6

Seeing as how Seth Rollins will be busy with Chris Jericho, there is no other direction for the brand to take its two top champions than to book them against each other in a high-profile champion vs. champion main event.

Six days before Survivor Series, Reigns and Owens were forced to coexist as they battled Cesaro and Sheamus. They managed to do so just fine—but not before some in-fighting nearly cost them the victory.

One day after a Team Raw loss at Survivor Series, Owens and partner Jericho were quick to blame Reigns for the loss.

With those seeds planted and another physical altercation between them to boot, it appears as though Reigns vs. Owens is the direction the company is heading.

It is the right one.

Regardless of one's opinion of Reigns, he is a believable main event star who has spent the entirety of the year at or near the top of the card. He garners the loudest reaction of the night and has repeatedly performed up to the level of the moment.

His chemistry with Owens is unbelievable, and in a pay-per-view setting, the two Superstars should provide a marquee bout worth seeking out.
