Washington head coach Jay Gruden told reporters Compton has a sprained PCL and is "day-to-day, week-to-week."
Compton Is Reliable Contributor for Washington's Defense
Compton, 27, had accumulated 97 tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and one interception coming into Week 14. He's built on his excellent 2015 campaign, when he notched 96 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and an interception.
He's established himself as a reliable producer for Washington's defense, joining key contributors like Josh Norman, Trent Murphy and Ryan Kerrigan on a solid, if unspectacular, defensive unit.
And he's gone from being an undrafted free agent to the quarterback of Washington's defense, a post that defensive coordinator Joe Barry said he's handled with aplomb in November, per Master Tesfatsion of the Washington Post:
"I refer to the Mike linebacker on defense as the quarterback — no different than the quarterback on offense. You've got to play the mental aspect of it. You've got to play the chess match, and Will is outstanding with that: getting everybody lined up, communicating both to the D-line in front of him, the backers next to him, the [defensive backs] behind him. He does a wonderful job with that.
"
That leadership will be tough to replace. But with Compton and Su'a Cravens injured, Martrell Spaight will likely see more snaps at middle linebacker.
