Q&A with adidas' George Robusti and Brandon Beaty on the AlphaBOUNCE EM
Adidas is leaving little doubt it is completely invested in both performance and lifestyle, and it shows in the upcoming Engineered Mesh.
The brand has upgraded the original by changing the upper with a more breathable Engineered Mesh.ย Three are available in the latest Engineered Mesh release ranging from gray, tan, and aqua.
Bleacher Report Kicks sat down with the designers behind the Engineered Mesh, George and ย Brandon .
Q: What was the inspiration for the initially? What inspired the addition of Engineered Mesh to this particular model?
George , Senior Design Director for Running at : was born from an insightโa state of mindโwhere athletes (and runners alike) get in the zone. A state of determination, and clarity, without distraction. To create a product that would enable this experience, we started with a 360 approach to a seamless experience by infusing function into the product using very few parts and reducing seams. Engineered Mesh will now be able be able to take us into the summer season with confidence by adding engineered zones of increased airflow around the foot.
Brandon , Category Director of Menโs Running at : Whatโs really exciting is this is the first franchise that our Portland-based global running design and creation team has been able to bring to market. Itโs a perfect example of how weโre focusing our efforts on the U.S. consumer, and is no exception. is made for that kid who does not identify themselves as a runner but run to dominate their sport.

Q: What are the main differences between the original and the Engineered Mesh version of the ?
GR: The original mesh was developed to give great fit characteristicsโit was designed for movement. The level of stretch was designed to work with the foot, and the Forged areas supplied the support, all in one seamless layer. The Engineered Mesh version builds on this by adding more breathability, and without compromising performance.
Q: What are some of your favorite aspects of the Engineered Mesh? Any underrated features about the sneaker that you believe deserve highlighting?
GR: has an understated aesthetic due to the Forged Mesh being so integrated. I believe its superpower is being a performance product that is so wearable. The Engineered Mesh version continues to add built-in performance benefits without looking overly technical.
BB: Itโs easy to assume that a shoe at this price point is just that, a shoe that looks good with no real performance benefits. What makes such a complete package is not only that it does in fact look great but itโs packed with technology, from BOUNCE cushioning, Forged mesh upper and Aramis motion capture technology.

Q: Why is the an important sneaker for , alongside the other popular silhouettes by ย (Ultra Boost, ย and even )?
GR: is an important player in the lineup. Itโs born from a performance insight and packs performance in a fresh modern way that has a wider appeal to runners. Itโs a very versatile silhouette.
BB: complements our vault of running innovations by tailoring to the person who does not identify themselves as a runnerโthatโs a subtle, but substantial, shift in how people typically think of running brands. In other words, the basketball player, football player, baseball player, etc. are all potential consumers.
is also able to fuse sport and style in ways that no other brand can, and is no exceptionโwhether itโs DeAndre Hopkins using it to run in, or 2 wearing it court side, it straddles both worlds perfectly, something that our consumers are looking for today.

Q: How much will the Engineered Mesh cost?
$110 for Engineered Mesh.
Three of the Engineered Mesh are available Saturday for $110.
