Coughlin Linked to Bills

Thursday, Dec. 22

Pro Football Weekly reported Wednesday that Buffalo Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula "have been in conversations for some time now with [Coughlin], and Coughlin is the front-runner to be the next head coach of the Bills following this season."

Coughlin Reportedly May Return to Jaguars

Tuesday, Dec. 20

Coughlin "could" rejoin the Jacksonville Jaguars as an executive if he doesn't come back as head coach, per Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, who added the position might be VP of football operations.

"A reunion between [Coughlin], one of the most prominent figures in Jacksonville sports history, and the Jaguars is possible this offseason, according to league sources," CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reported Dec. 4. He continued:

"

While sources believe the Jags may retain GM Dave Caldwell, a restructuring of the front office is possible. The Jags have accrued some quality young talent but continue to finish last in the weak AFC South, and quarterback Blake Bortles has regressed. ...

Coughlin has the old-school track record and scouting background to balance out the analytical thrust within the Jacksonville front office and a unique appeal to Jags fans as well. Some who know Coughlin well believe he would quickly establish a strong rapport with [owner Shahid] Khan, and the Jags are in need of more proven football resumes among their decision-makers.

Coughlin Comments on Coaching Future

Monday, Nov. 14

Jon Gruden and Sean McDonough interviewed Coughlin during Monday night's game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Giants. Coughlin said:

"

I don't know. I really don't. I really don't. I mean, I say that I would be interested in listening, and then I say on the other hand, it better be a good opportunity, but I don't know that there are any good opportunities when the change is made. So we'll see. It's the middle of the season. Certainly my Doppler is back up, and I'm excited again, and I'm watching football and enjoying the games.

"

Coughlin Among Most Successful Available Head Coaches

Coughlin, a member of the Giants' ring of honor, tallied a 102-90 record in 12 years with the team and won two Super Bowls. However, he finished with a losing record in each of his final three seasons.

Coughlin also coached the Jaguars from 1995-2002 during the team's first eight years of existence.

Despite the fact he was coaching an expansion franchise, Coughlin led the Jaguars to the playoffs in four consecutive seasons from 1996-99 and finished within a game of the Super Bowl in the 1996 campaign after going 14-2 in the regular season.
