Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Wayne Rooney and Andre Silva Rumours
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is reportedly being targeted by emerging Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles FC in time for their inaugural season. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are understood to have joined the hunt for FC Porto striker Andre Silva.
LA FC are poised to join MLS for the 2018 campaign, and club owner Tom Penn has spoken of his outfit's desire to secure players "of global stature," with Rooney said to be among those piquing interest, per ESPN FC's Mark Ogden:
"We wouldn't discuss specific players. But we have spoken generally about the desire for a player of global stature.
For a player of stature, a European star let's say, we would want them to view this as the first day of the rest of their life, not as just the end of their playing career.
If they come to America, and establish themselves in that media market, there are many creative ways with our ownership group and investors to help kickstart or boost the afterlife of their career, as they transition to the real world later.

Despite the fact LA FC won't be a fully fledged team in Major League Soccer for a little more than a year, Penn added his club will be ready to sign players next summer, although Rooney isn't likely to sit for six months or more on the sidelines.
That being said, it's difficult to argue against the 31-year-old's decline at Old Trafford in recent years, and Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News hinted that fall has leaked into his international career:
Rooney has made 15 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions this season, although manager Jose Mourinho has dropped the veteran from his starting XI on occasion, and to good effect at times.
The striker-turned-midfielder still has more than two years to run on his deal, which expires in 2019, and it may not be long before United fans are left celebrating the best moments of a departed figure:
Elsewhere, United are said to be ramping up their interest in Portugal starlet Silva following his spike in form at the Estadio do Dragao, which has seen him net 10 goals in 17 games for Porto so far this season.
That's according to the Daily Record (h/t Daily Star's Alex Harris), which asserted Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also among the 21-year-old's biggest admirers.
Silva has also been in flying form for his country and has four goals in four appearances for Portugal, leading to claims United have been told to "make their move and not to miss out on another Portuguese prospect."
Metro's Primeira Liga expert Jan Hagen reported the Red Devils were one of numerous major clubs in attendance for Porto's recent UEFA Champions League meeting against Club Brugge:
Harris addressed the fact United missed out on the signature of 2016 Golden Boy and Silva's countryman, Renato Sanches, this summer, with the Portuguese prodigy instead moving to Bayern Munich.
The Premier League powerhouse may be tempted to move more quickly for the Porto youngster, and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's one-year contract expiring next summer, Silva could be a replacement with massive potential.
