Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Philippe Coutinho and Mahmoud Dahoud

Matt JonesNov 13, 2016

Liverpool are under no pressure to sell star midfielder Philippe Coutinho, as he has no release clause in his contract with the club.

That’s according to Paul Joyce of the Times, who stated the Reds are "in a powerful position" to keep the Brazilian at Anfield in the summer despite reports of interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

"Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s American owner, would be entirely guided by manager Jurgen Klopp should a bid be forthcoming," Joyce noted.

Coutinho’s mesmerising displays have been central to the Reds' wonderful start to the campaign; they’re sat top of the table after 11 games and have played some stunning attacking football.

Liverpool's German manager Jurgen Klopp (R) speaks to Liverpool's Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho on the touchline during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Leicester City at Anfield in Liverpool, north west England on

The Brazilian has been scoring goals, making opportunities and knitting Liverpool’s attacks together with his brilliant technical ability. As noted by Squawka Football, when he does get on the scoresheet, it’s typically with a spectacular strike:

While the goals and assists stand out, there have been improvements to Coutinho’s game across the board this term. The former Inter Milan man is much more efficient with his use of the ball, is working harder out of possession than at any other point in his career and has raised his levels of consistency dramatically.

You sense it’s this improvement that has triggered reports of interest from some of the biggest clubs in European football, but it seems as though Reds fans needn’t worry for the time being. Coutinho appears to be loving life on Merseyside, and it’d likely take a stratospheric offer before the Reds even considered moving him on.

Mahmoud Dahoud Linked with January Switch

According to Express (h/t the Sunday Mirror) Liverpool will make a £26 million bid for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud in January.

Klopp is said to be a long-term fan of the Germany under-21 international, who has developed wonderfully in the Bundesliga. The report suggested that after interest in the summer, the Reds are ready to test Borussia’s resolve to keep the 20-year-old.

Here is a look at why so many in Germany have such high hopes for Dahoud:

Last season, the youngster excelled under manager Andre Schubert. At times, Monchengladbach’s midfield of Granit Xhaka, now of Arsenal, and Dahoud was the standout one in the division, offering energy, quality on the ball and physicality.

Sports journalist Rafael Hernandez hailed the youngster earlier in the season after he impressed during a UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona:

Sadly for Dahoud, his efforts in that game have been at odds with some inconsistent performances for BMG as of late. He has started just four Bundesliga matches this season. However, for a young player who was on the field a lot last term, it’s no surprise to see he’s suffered a slump of sorts, especially without the indomitable Xhaka alongside him.

That won’t deter Liverpool if they are pursuing the player, and a signing with his youthful exuberance could give the side a boost midseason. Nevertheless, it’d be a huge surprise to see the German club sanction a sale in January.
