Kovalev vs. Ward Weigh-In: Watch Live Stream of Pre-Fight Event
Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward will meet Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the unified light heavyweight championship and, possibly, pound-for-pound supremacy. We don't often get to see two prime fighters at the top of the pound-for-pound list do battle, so we'd better appreciate this one.
Can Kovalev extend his light heavyweight dominance and convincingly prove he's the best fighter in the division? Or will Ward be able to move up in weight and stake his claim to supremacy by putting down the big, bad Russian champion?
Friday afternoon, the two men will meet for the final time ahead of their showdown at the weigh-in.
Where: MGM Grand Garden Arena
When: 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT
Kovalev is probably the meanest fighter in the game today. He's got tremendous punching power and quickly established himself as must-see TV since bursting on the scene in a big way back in 2013.
He holds three-fourths of the light heavyweight gold, along with bludgeoning wins over Jean Pascal (twice) and Bernard Hopkins, two former undisputed 175-pound champs. He will be looking to top that with the biggest win of his career against an undefeated challenger.
Ward made his name by dominating the Super Six super middleweight tournament to become undisputed champion while knocking off the likes of Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch.
He moved up to light heavyweight earlier this year and has scored a pair of convincing victories to set himself up for a crack at the championship. But Kovalev is the biggest and strongest opponent of his career, so this will tell us a lot about both men.
