Arsenal Transfer News: Jack Wilshere Comments on Gunners Future, Latest Rumours

Tom SunderlandNov 8, 2016

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has conceded his career at the Emirates Stadium could be drawing to a close as he seeks to re-establish his reputation on loan at fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth this season.

While admitting his love for the Gunners endures, Wilshere has voiced concern he may be forced into leaving the club that has developed him since he joined their academy at nine years of age, per the Sun's Charlie Wyett:

"

Of course I love Arsenal but, if there comes a time when I have to leave, then I have to leave. It is difficult for me to say because of course I love Arsenal — I’ve had great times there and they have been great for me.

And I can still see myself playing there as well but who knows what the future holds. I have got a year left when I go back there.

At the moment I’m just trying to have a season that puts me in a good position at the end of the year. I have improved as a player and Arsenal want me back and then we will see where we go from there.

The 24-year-old is wise to the fact his Arsenal contract expires in June 2018, meaning he'll have one year remaining on his Gunners deal—and one year to prove his worth—by the time he returns to his parent club.

It's no secret an extensive history of recurring injuries is the major reason his place at the Emirates Stadium has been called into doubt, so much so that Wilshere himself can now laugh at the matter:

Wilshere has been lucky to not suffer any serious setbacks during his season-long stay at Bournemouth thus far, especially after he missed 47 matches of Arsenal's 2015-16 campaign with a fracture, per Transfermarkt.

That being said, if Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger needed a statement from his player indicating a return to former glory was on the way, Wilshere looks to be going about it the right way, per WhoScored.com:

Wilshere has looked impressive during his short stay at the Vitality Stadium, although there has rarely been a question regarding the playmaker's talent, only that he struggles to maintain fitness long enough to display it on a regular basis.

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate recently rewarded the Stevenage native with a national team call-up following his show of good form early in the 2016-17 campaign, via Sky Sports News HQ:

Wilshere has started in seven of his 10 Premier League appearances under Cherries manager Eddie Howe this season, although he has featured for 90 minutes in his last three successive games for the club. To put that feat into context, it's something the player last achieved in the Premier League in September 2014.

However, Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph didn't agree with the decision to hand Wilshere an England return after such a short-term display of his abilities:

Many at the Emirates may pray this is the season Wilshere waves goodbye to his injury woes and shows for Bournemouth the kind of longevity he's struggled to display at Arsenal for so long.

The former jewel in Wenger's crown is well aware of the fact his time in north London could be at an end unless he can prove his worth at Bournemouth, although he's well on track to accomplishing that goal.
