15-Year-Old Boxer Dies After Fight in Russia, Criminal Investigation Launched
A criminal investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old boxer died following a competitive bout in Russia on Saturday.
As reported by the Associated Press, citing a state investigative agency, the unidentified fighter is said to have been knocked down twice during the contest before the referee stopped the action. It's noted that after the fight was over, the teenager started to convulse, and despite the efforts of the medical staff, he died in an ambulance.
According to investigators, the death is being considered as a case of criminal negligence because the teenager "required extra attention" due to a significant head injury he'd suffered in the past.
In the report it's also noted the 15-year-old was a student of the state sport academy and the fight was his third in as many days.
