Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can

Tom SunderlandNov 6, 2016

Real Madrid may be ready to intensify their interest in Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho after it emerged Zinedine Zidane is reportedly "in love with" the Brazilian. Meanwhile, Emre Can is closing in on a new contract at Anfield.

Spanish outlet OK Diario (h/t Dipesh Agarwal of Sport Witness) reported on Zidane's alleged admiration of Liverpool's puppeteer, while Barcelona want him to be the "new Andres Iniesta."

But the Spanish pair aren't the only European powerhouses associated with the Reds star, with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in landing his signature as a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now at Manchester United.

Coutinho was in flying form for the Premier League leaders during their 6-1 hammering of Watford on Sunday, and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher questioned if he's England's best player at present:

The former Inter Milan maestro has gone from strength to strength since moving to Anfield for a figure of €13 million in January 2013, so much so that he's now allegedly being chased by the biggest powers on the continent.

Liverpool lead the Premier League and are the top scorers in England thanks to the dazzling performances of their front three, whom Anfield HQ detailed as leading the Merseysiders to their current heights:

Coutinho has arguably played the largest hand in that rise, both supplying a stream of ammunition to his team-mates and possessing a deadly eye for goal of his own.

At the very least, manager Jurgen Klopp has taken a positive attitude toward speculation linking his talisman with a move away, seeing the upside to the fact Coutinho is only associated with the best, per Liverpool writer Dave O'Connell:

Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce reported Can is closing in on a new deal at Anfield, with his current contract poised to expire in the summer of 2018.

Negotiations would appear to be running along smoothly as Pearce wrote the midfielder is "ready to commit," and Mail Online highlighted the high praise the German received after a star display against Watford:

James Milner's move to cover the left-back area has meant more playing time in the engine room for Can, and the former Bayer Leverkusen anchor has repaid his boss with a string of consistent displays.

Jordan Henderson, Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum are valuable assets in midfield, but talk of a Can extension will undoubtedly go down well with much of the Liverpool support.
