Packers Showing Interest in Bell

Sunday, Nov. 6

Bell is "expected to sign" with the Green Bay Packers on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Bell, 30, appeared in four games for the Chicago Bears this season, rushing three times for six yards before being cut in late October.

He spent his first four seasons with the Detroit Lions, rushing for 2,235 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was at his best between 2013 and 2014, when he accumulated a total of 2,379 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns.

Detroit cut him following the 2015 season, however, after a series of injuries and the normal wear and tear for the position left him visibly lacking burst. That loss of speed led to a pedestrian 3.5 yards per carry in the 2015 season.

The Packers, however, are thin at running back following injuries to Eddie Lacy and James Starks, leaving wideout Ty Montgomery as the top option at the position. Montgomery, however, has never carried the ball more than nine times in a game for Green Bay, and Aaron Rodgers and the passing game have been forced to pick up the slack.

The Packers also have Don Jackson available at running back, though Bell's ability to be a punishing runner between the tackles and a viable target in the passing game would make him a valuable addition in Green Bay.
