Juvenile Turf

Oscar Performance$15.20$8.00$5.60
Lancaster Bomber$11.20$6.40
Good Samaritan$3.40

The one-mile turf track was fast on Friday, allowing the two-year-old horses in the field to let loose at Santa Anita.

Oscar Performance did just that with a 1:33.28 run to lead the day off, which was the second-quickest running of the Juvenile Turf ever, per the NBC Sports telecast.

As expected, Wellabled set the pace early with initial speed out of the gates, got to the inside and held the lead for over half a mile.

Oscar Performance was the one to emerge from the pack and mount a challenge. On the turn to the home stretch, he caught Wellabled, who faded fast.

While he finished uncontested, Lancaster Bomber and Good Samaritan managed to overtake Wellabled for second and third, respectively.

Las Vegas Dirt Mile

Tamarkuz$25.80$9.40$8.00
Gun Runner$5.20$4.60
Accelerate$16.00

Things then moved to the dirt in the form of the Las Vegas Dirt Mile, which featured two turns around the main track in a one-mile race.

Tamarkuz used an overwhelming charge on the final straightaway to pull away from Gun Runner to pick up a first-ever win in North America.

Runhappy set the pace, while the favorite Dortmund settled for second on the outside with Gun Runner stalking in third.

At the half-mile mark and heading into the final turn, Dortmund took the lead just for a moment before Gun Runner hopped into the lead on the outside.

The leader didn't have nearly enough as Tamarkuz bolted away from the pack in the final furlongs to secure the win.

Juvenile Fillies Turf

New Money Honey$15.00$7.60$5.20
Coasted$17.40$10.20
Cavale Doree$10.60

Back onto the fast, firm turf for the two-year-old Fillies and it was New Money Honey to come back from the middle of the pack at the top of the stretch to pull out the win.

Lull had the lead for all but the final furlong as she quickly took the lead out of the gates, took the inside and set a blazing pace for the rest of the field.

At one point, she was 4.5 lengths in front of Sweeping Paddy in second and Roly Poly in third. But into the final stretch, New Money Honey clicked into gear and took off to overtake the surging Coasted and Cavale Doree, who finished in second and third, respectively.

Lull could only settle for a fourth-place finish.

Longines Distaff

Beholder$8.60$3.60$3.00
Songbird$3.20$2.80
Forever Unbridled$4.40

The main event, which paid out $2 million, ended the first day of the Breeders' Cup with Beholder taking the win in her final race.

This was a stacked field as six of the eight horses competing were already millionaires before Friday's race. All eyes were on Songbird, though, who had won all 11 of her races, although this was the first time she was facing older horses.

Especially with the likes of Beholder and Stellar Wind lining up against her.

Stellar Wind didn't break out of the gates, which put her out of contention early, but Songbird quickly shot out to the lead with Beholder having work to do on the far outside.

While Songbird easily set the pace, Beholder worked from third on the outside right past I'm A Chatterbox into second and less than a length behind the leader.

Into the final stretch, Songbird attempted to hang on by a thread, but in the final strides, Beholder drew even and won by the finest of margins.
