Mike Condon to Senators: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction

The Ottawa Senators have acquired goaltender Mike Condon from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a fifth-round pick, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. 

Condon, 26, appeared in just one game for the Penguins this season, making seven saves on seven attempts while serving as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup.

Condon became expendable in Pittsburgh with Matt Murray set to return to action, per James O'Brien of NBC Sports. Sportsnet's Dimitri Filipovic liked the deal from the Penguins' perspective:

For the Senators, the move comes after putting goalie Andrew Hammond on injured reserve over the weekend following a groin injury. Hammond also missed time during the 2015-16 season with groin issues.

"It won’t be two or three days," Senators coach Guy Boucher said on Saturday of Hammond's recovery, per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun. "Let’s not kid ourselves. It might be longer than that."

Craig Anderson, the team's other goalie, had been away from the team due to his wife being diagnosed with cancer, but he returned when Hammond was injured.
