MODANO WON’T PLAY IN EDMONTON

The Dallas Stars received some good news on Monday when it was shown through an MRI that their veteran forward Mike Modano has suffered only bruises and no structural damage to his ribs. This 39 year-old who is in his 20th season with the Stars is with the team on their current road trip and is targeting to play later on this trip against the Calgary Flames or Calgary Flames. “There’s no masking the fact that he’s sore and that it’s almost painful to do anything,” Stars coach Marc Crawford said about Modano who was injured last Saturday in their home opener against the Nashville Predators. “With the MRI, they believe that it (ribs) will subside and how quickly it does will determine how quickly he gets back in the lineup.”

MOORE SIGNS WITH THE FLORIDA PANTHERS

On Monday the Florida Panthers offence received a huge lift when the speedy Dominic Moore signed a one- year deal worth 1.1 million. Last season forward had a breakout season in registering 12 goals and 41 points in only 63 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres at the March trade deadline. In Buffalo Moore scored three assists in 18 games. In only 305 games this 29 year-old has scored 35 goals and 100 points.

HURRICANES LOSE COLE WITH LONG TERM INJURY

Still looking for their first win after two regular season games the Carolina Hurricanes have lost a key forward in Erik Cole who suffered a fractured left leg against when on Saturday he crashed with Bruins defenceman Dennis Wideman. Cole who split last season between the Edmonton Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes is scheduled to be sidelined for anywhere between four to six weeks.
