 Why the Clemson Tigers can cover the spread

Clemson is 7-0 and leads the ACC Coastal Division by basically two games after outlasting North Carolina State in overtime two weeks ago 24-17. They then had last week off.

The Tigers took an early 3-0 lead on the Wolfpack and never trailed. They had to survive a missed North Carolina State field-goal attempt as time expired in regulation, then won the game on a Deshaun Watson touchdown pass in the top of the overtime period and an interception on defense in the bottom.

On the day, Clemson outgained the Wolfpack 504-397 while overcoming four turnovers. The Tigers couldn't cover as 20-point favorites, but before that, they had covered four games in a row.

Also, leading rusher Wayne Gallman missed most of the North Carolina State game with a suspected concussion, but he is expected back this week.

Why the Florida State Seminoles can cover the spread

The Seminoles own a two-game winning streak, following their 17-6 win over Wake Forest two weeks ago. They also then had last week off.

FSU took the lead for good on the Demon Deacons on a short touchdown run by quarterback Deondre Francois late in the second quarter. The defense did the rest, holding Wake out of the end zone. On the afternoon, the Seminoles outgained the Deacons 442-252 as Francois threw for 319 yards and a touchdown, hooking up with wide receiver Travis Rudolph 13 times for 238 yards.

Three weeks ago, Florida State lost to North Carolina on a 54-yard field goal on the last play of the game. But the Seminoles kept their faint conference title hopes alive two weeks ago with a 20-19 victory over Miami.
