O'Brien Announces Newton Will Miss Remainder of Season

Tuesday, Oct. 25

"We are still gathering information," head coach Bill O'Brien told reporters. "He will obviously be out for the season."

"We haven't even done an MRI on the guy yet," O'Brien said on Monday when asked if Newton suffered a double patella tendon tear, per Lindsay Jones of USA Today.

Newton Has Been a Staple on Texans O-Line

Newton has been Houston's starting right tackle since 2012.

The 2011 seventh-round pick has been healthy throughout his career, playing in 14 games as a rookie before starting all 14 games he played in 2012. From there, Newton has been a model of consistency, playing in all 16 games in three consecutive seasons.

His consistency helped him earn a five-year extension before the start of the 2015 season.

Unfortunately, the injuries have started piling up this year, as John McClain of the Houston Chronicle detailed:

Chris Clark—who has spent time filling in for Duane Brown at left tackle this season—started at right tackle for Newton in Week 6 and replaced him on the field Monday. He will likely remain in the role with Newton out.
