Recap

Harrington was in fine form over the front nine. He struck this birdie on the eighth to stake his claim for top spot:

This was how prolific he was early on:

Hansen was keeping pace with the leader, though. This superb approach shot to the pin gave him the chance to birdie the 15th, one he duly took:

Another birdie, this one at the 17th, gave Hansen a share of the lead, although he narrowly missed out on an eagle. It was certainly proving a day for the veterans at Vilamoura:

Hansen finished off his superb round with one more birdie to finish with a share of the lead:

He soon received the lead outright when Harrington slipped to a bogey on the par-four 14. It was par the rest of the way for Harrington, who couldn't recover from the gaffe.

Hansen revealed his laid-back approach after completing his round:

Not wanting to be outdone, 47-year-old Paul Lawrie worked to stake his claim. The Scot was at 13-under par after 12 holes.

He'd hit an eagle on the par-five 12 before sinking a birdie at the 13th. Lawrie finished strongly to continue the day's golden-oldie theme:

However, Lawrie wasn't the only player making his move.

Finnish golfer Korhonen had produced four birdies on the front nine, only for his scorecard to be undermined by a bogey at the par-three six. Yet Korhonen hit two more birdies over the initial four holes on the back nine to inch two shots closer to the overall lead.

Korhonen went ahead of Harrington when he birdied the 15th and 17th holes. The Finn is now level with Hansen on 18-under overall.

Korhonen kept the pressure on Hansen, but Harrington will rue some missed opportunities when he starts one shot back tomorrow.
