WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 for Week of Oct. 20

Aaron BowerOct 20, 2016

Goldberg's return to WWE this week dominated both the talk surrounding the company and the weekly rumor roundup about the latest things circulating online.

With WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 just under a week away on Oct. 30, attention is beginning to turn beyond that show and toward the marquee Survivor Series pay-per-view, where both Raw and SmackDown will collide for the first time since the brand split.

Goldberg's upcoming match with Brock Lesnar is detailed in closer view this week, as well as a look at who could win what at Hell in a Cell.

In addition, there's a worrying note on a WWE legend and his status for WrestleMania next year.

Who Will Win Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar II?

1 of 3

The reception and reaction Goldberg received when he returned to WWE this past Monday only increased speculation he could go over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

It was a favorable reaction for a guy who hasn't been seen in a WWE ring for 12 years, but according to the latest gossip, it's not going to change the outcome that has been locked in for some time.

Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats reported that the plan has always been for Goldberg to lose to Lesnar at Survivor Series, and it's going to take something huge to change that line of thinking.

To be honest, this doesn't come as much of a surprise. Lesnar losing to someone who hasn't wrestled in WWE for a decade makes little sense.

As much as WWE fans would probably like to see Goldberg with his hand held aloft after the match, this rumor seems to have plenty of substance.

Interestingly, it's also noted from another source that the Survivor Series contest may not be Goldberg's only match during his return.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Marc Middleton of LordsofPain.net) noted that he could work another contest if he proves to be over. If Monday is the benchmark for that decision, it looks like Goldberg may well fight more than once after all.

No Titles Changing Hands at Hell in a Cell?

2 of 3

With Hell in a Cell just over a week away, talk is intensifying about what could happen at the upcoming Raw-exclusive pay-per-view.

There are three matches scheduled to take place inside the cell, all of which will see titles placed on the line.

Roman Reigns will defend his United States Championship against Rusev, Sasha Banks will fight Charlotte for the Raw Women's Championship and the Universal Championship will be on the line when Kevin Owens faces Seth Rollins.

But according to Ortman, none of those titles—or any that will be defended, for that matter—will have new owners.

The other matches will see The New Day defend its tag titles and T.J. Perkins fight Brian Kendrick for the Cruiserweight Championship, but it looks like there will be no new champions, per this report.

The Undertaker Undergoes Surgery?

3 of 3

Finally, news about The Undertaker and his potential status for WrestleMania 33 next year.

Taker hasn't been seen for a good few months now, and PWInsider (h/t Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc) reported that The Deadman recently underwent surgery.

There have been photos emerging online of Taker using crutches to get about, and it's being reported that he underwent hip surgery, which explains the use of crutches.

Intriguingly, there is no update on when he had the surgery or when he is likely to return to WWE.

But it does leave the immediate future up in the air for Taker, particularly with the Royal Rumble and the start of WrestleMania season now just a few short months away.
