Momma Gouche
On opening night for the Toronto Maple Leafs last Thursday at the ACC against the Montreal Canadiens, the Maple Leafs took a loss in a game in which they totally out-played the Montreal Canadians. Had it not been for the brilliant play of Carey Price, there would have been a different ending. I was not impressed with the play of Vesa Toskala and do not think he will be an asset to the team. I believe even though Brain Burke strengthened the defense on the Leafs, goaltending is still very suspect. Price faced 48 shots, while Toskala had to contend with 27 in a 4-3 victory for Montreal. I thought that it was anyone’s game going into over-time, but Montreal’s Josh Gorges scored 12 seconds left in OT off a rebound of Mike Cammalleri and thus the tale was told. I do not totally agree with everything that Don Cherry says, but I think it was a grievous error to give the first star to Josh Gorges, instead of Carey Price. He is going to be a big factor to Montreal if he continues to play at this level. Momma Gouche has spoken.
