NBA Trade Rumors: Rasheed Wallace On the Move and More

Monty SinghSenior Analyst IJune 2, 2008

As the season ended for all but two teams, trade rumors are flying throughout the league, especially before the draft. Last summer, the Celtics made a big trade for Ray Allen on draft night, which led to them getting KG. Now look where they are.

Recently, new names and places have been rumored for being on the move. I am going to look at them and predict what may happen or what the best result may be.

The Pistons recently got to their sixth straight Eastern Conference finals, but since firing Larry Brown, have not yet gotten over the hump into the Finals.  Flip Saunders may be on his way out along with one of the veterans.

Rasheed Wallace has been a core player but also may have been a distraction. With Maxiell showing promise, Joe Dumars might want to move Sheed. A team Wallace has been rumored to go is the loved UNC vet team, Charlotte Bobcats.

Jordan needs a player that can play next to Emeka Okafor and spread the floor. He also needs another UNC player, since he loves to collect them. Sheed would be a perfect fit for this team, and would be able to reunite with Larry Brown.

They did not get along well in Detroit.  No one really does with Brown, but they still won. The Pistons may want Jason Richardson or Okafor, but the Bobcats cannot be willing to get rid of them.

A trade scenario that would work is trading Sheed and the 29th pick for Gerald Wallace, Othella Harrington, cash, and the ninth pick in the draft.

The Pistons get a versatile player in Gerald Wallace and a top ten pick, where they can land a variety range of players.

Jordan wants to win now and is building a team that would have rising star Raymond Felton, Jason Richardson (who really had a quiet good season), Adam Morrison (was streaky but still has potential to be a solid shooter in the NBA), Sheed, and Okafor.

The starting five may be enough to compete in the East with Dudley, Muhammed, Boykins, and May coming off the bench. The Pistons can get ready to build for the future as they already have a future star in Rodney Stuckey.

Another Piston that had been rumored to be on the move is Richard Hamilton to the Bulls. With Stuckey playing really well, Dumars might feel comfortable moving Hamilton. I think this rumor should be put to sleep.

No way should they get rid of a player like this, who quietly led them in scoring last season. He is going to be 30-years-old and still has three to four quality years in him. Unless they get the No. 1 pick, I do not see Rip getting moved.

Jermaine O'Neal again is on and off the trading block. Indiana needs to move him already. Granger and Dunleavy have shown they are the future, and O’Neal just wastes away on the bench.

They need to find a suitor for him, while there are many who should be interested.

The big rumor with a draft pick is if Derrick Rose is taken No. 1 (and it looks like that will happen).  The Heat are looking to trade that pick. Riley already stated that they already have the forwards in Shawn Marion (if he re-signs) and Udonis Haslem.

They need a point guard to lead them, and there are many teams who would like Beasley. Beasley is not going to be a power forward in the NBA. I stood next to him and he is 6'7", maybe 6'8" in high shoes. He can be a Carmelo or a Derrick Coleman.

A possibility is the Grizzlies trading the fifth pick with Javaris Crittenton and Mike Miller to the Heat for the No. 2 pick with Mark Blount and Marcus Banks.

The Grizzlies will have two deadly forwards in Rudy Gay and Beasley with Mike Conley and Lowry as guards. They run a fast paced system, and this would be a fun team to watch.

The Heat would get a really underrated point guard in Crittenton. He really played well whenever he got in. With the Grizzlies already sold on Conley and Lowry, there is no place for Crittenton there.

Miami also needs a shooter who is in his prime in Miller. Since losing Eddie Jones, Posey, and even Kapono, the Heat lost all their shooters and now will have a player in Miller who can fill in very well.

With the fifth pick, the Heat can comfortably get a project in center DeAndre Jordan. With Alonzo there, Jordan can learn and develop as he is projected to be the next Dwight Howard.

With Crittenton, Wade, Marion, and Haslem there, the Heat will be a threat again.

These are all my opinions on what should happen on these rumors. None of this may happen, but if it does, it would be interesting.
