Ryan Lochte, Girlfriend Kayla Rae Reid Announce Engagement on Instagram

Six-time U.S. Olympic gold-medal swimmer Ryan Lochte and his girlfriend Kayla Rae Reid have announced their engagement on Instagram. 

The couple took to social media Sunday to reveal the news:

Lochte, who is currently competing on Dancing With the Stars, met the former Playboy model in January and recently spoke of how she stayed by his side during the fallout from his claims that he was robbed at gunpoint during the 2016 Rio Olympics, for which he was suspended for 10 months by USA Swimming and the U.S. Olympic Committee. 

Per Josh Peter of USA TODAY, he said: "My family says, 'Don’t you think it’s a little too soon?' I’m like, 'Can you put a time on love? Can you?' When I realized this was 'the one' was when she stuck behind me through this."

He added, "From the very first time I met her, everything has like clicked. That's why I know I can propose to her because everything that's happened and she's been keeping me so positive. She doesn't care about my fame. She doesn't care about anything. All she cares about is me being happy."

Lochte has also won 39 world championship gold medals over short and long courses in addition to his six Olympic golds.
