Notre Dame vs. NC State: Live Score, Highlights for Irish vs. Wolfpack
NC State 10, Notre Dame 3—Final
In one of the sloppiest college football games in recent memory, the North Carolina State Wolfpack held on for a 10-3 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It was a game filled with turnovers and simple mistakes, but the Wolfpack made the necessary adjustments.
The difference in this game was NC State's ability to run the football. It outgained Notre Dame 157-59 on the ground, led by Matt Dayes' 126 rushing yards. Dayes was also the leading receiver for the Wolfpack, totaling 14 yards on three receptions.
The biggest adjustment NC State made was inserting quarterback Jalan McClendon in the game to run the ball, and he totaled 56 yards on 10 carries. Notre Dame never got its run game going, and backup Malik Zaire was on the field for just one play. Many will question why Brian Kelly didn't utilize Zaire's running ability more, because DeShone Kizer threw for just 54 yards.
Notre Dame (2-4) must regroup before traveling home to take on Stanford. NC State (4-1) will visit Death Valley next Saturday to take on Clemson.
