Sage Northcutt vs. Mickey Gall Fight Announced for UFC Fight Night Sacramento

The UFC has confirmed that Sage Northcutt and Mickey Gall will face each other at UFC Fight Night Sacramento on Saturday, December 17.

The organisation tweeted the news on Thursday:

Northcutt holds an 8-1 record in MMA, while newcomer Gall has won all three of his fights thus far. Gall was delighted with the announcement and vowed to put on a show for spectators:

He beat former WWE champion CM Punk in his last bout via submission. Each of his fights has ended with a rear-naked choke.

Per MMA Fighting's Dave Doyle, after the victory in September, Gall called out Northcutt. According to Marc Raimondi of the same outlet, he also described the 20-year-old as "corny."

Northcutt hit back on the The MMA Hour (via Raimondi): "I think just him going in and fighting two guys that had no fights—I think they were both close to 40 years old, too—it's almost like fighting someone's dad that only trained very little for a fight. It was definitely interesting if you think of it that way."

MMA Fighting's Shaheen Al-Shatti believes it will be an exciting matchup, while ESPN's Phil Murphy also welcomed the news:

Meanwhile, MMA writer Adam Martin backed Gall to emerge victorious in the Octagon:

Gall has proved himself an excellent fighter on the mat and showed as much against Punk with a double-leg takedown and an extended spell of impressive dominance on top of him.

He'll most likely prove to be a significant test for Northcutt, who needed a decision to beat Enrique Marin in his last fight.

The pair have already begun their war of words—it's shaping up to be a thrilling showdown.
