Recap

Wilson got off to an electric start, as PDC Darts shared:

The world No. 1 replied in typical fashion, however, checking out on 96 with two doubles and taking two more legs in quick succession to lead the contest.

Wilson missed tops for a 160 checkout in the second set, which the Dutchman punished by winning another three consecutive legs.

The Jammie Dodger was able to break the run as he claimed the first leg of the third set, but even with a significant head start in the following leg, he could do little to stop the ruthless Dutchman, as Live Darts shared:

After pulling ahead once more, Mighty Mike fought back to force a decider and saw out the match.

Nevertheless, he noted the need to tighten up his game after allowing Wilson to take two legs in the third set, per Live Darts:

Earlier, Whitlock and Norris kicked off the evening with a showdown of quality.

Whitlock took the first set in style without dropping a leg. After throwing a maximum and a 177 in the second leg, the Wizard took the third to draw first blood, via PDC Darts:

Norris failed to make his chances pay in the second set, but the Englishman was able to regain his composure, taking out 106 and 102 on the way to pulling back the third set.

Norris maintained his momentum despite dropping the first leg of the fourth set, winning three in succession to force a decisive fifth set, in which he moved within one leg of a memorable victory.

In an incredible finish, Whitlock produced 16 perfect darts to take the match, via PDC Darts:

Darts journalist Pieter Verbeek hailed both players:

The Australian was understandably delighted with his performance, via PDC Darts:

Chisnall raced through his first set with Dolan, and while the Northern Irishman was able to make double-two and double-eight finishes in the second, it was soon 2-0.

A 141 checkout helped Dolan pull back a set, but the Englishman was in no mood to fall victim to a comeback and saw off the spirited challenge in the fourth.

He took to Twitter to hail his opponent after the match:

West upset Phil Taylor on Monday, but he was unable to replicate that performance on Wednesday, losing to Gurney in a whitewash.

The Englishman was able to claim two legs in each set, but on all three occasions, the Northern Irishman took the decider. As Live Darts revealed, Gurney was clinical:

Gurney has never reached this stage of the Grand Prix before—it'll be a tough ask for him to advance further.

Nevertheless, if he's in top form, he may yet be able to produce an upset of his own.
