The Wake Forest Demon Deacons found the centerpiece of their 2017 recruiting class after securing the commitment of 4-star shooting guard Chaundee Brown.

Brown announced his decision Sunday on Twitter:

Brown is the No. 7 shooting guard and No. 40 player overall in 2017 on Scout.

In his two years at the school, head coach Danny Manning has a 24-39 record. In order for Manning to turn Wake Forest into an ACC contender again, he and his staff will need to improve on the recruiting trail.

Corey Evans of Roundball Rundown Report sees Brown as a great start to spark the Demon Deacons' turnaround:

ESPN.com's Jeff Borzello noted it had been nearly a decade since the school landed a player as highly ranked as Brown:

Brown is a dynamic scorer despite not boasting consistent long-range capabilities. The Orlando, Florida, native is skilled at driving to the basket and finishing in traffic. He can also pull up and knock down mid-range jumpers, which will add more headaches to opposing defenses.

Whether he improves drastically as a shooter or not, Brown will make an immediate impact for the Demon Deacons. He and sophomore guard Bryant Crawford—who averaged 13.8 points per game as a freshman—should make for an explosive backcourt duo.

Wake Forest hasn't reached the NCAA tournament since Dino Gaudio's final season in 2009-10. It's a significant drought for a program that was a fixture in the Big Dance under former coaches Skip Prosser and Dave Odom.

The drought may not last much longer, though, with Brown coming on board in 2017.
